On the central coast of New South Wales, the immense sandy beach of Munmorah State Conservation Area stretches about 9 kilometers, and the northernmost part of this huge beach is known as Birdie Beach. This beach is about 115 kilometers north of Sydney and 45 kilometers south of Newcastle, and the closest town is Lake Munmorah. The part of Birdie Beach immediately next to the parking lot is textile, but turn left as you face the water and you'll quickly reach a segment of of the beach that is officially designated for clothing-optional use. The area shaded in red indicates the approximate boundaries of the nude area, which is the northernmost 500 or so meters of the entire 9-kilometer-long beach. Birdie Beach is very popular, drawing several hundred visitors on summer weekends. The atmosphere is more social than that of most nude beaches. There are restrooms at the parking lot, and there is also a small camping area near the beach (within the conservation area). Many visitors bring beach umbrellas since there is no shade. Be sure to bring drinking water. There is an entry fee.
