The distance between the easternmost development of the town of Ahlbeck and the Polish border is about 1.5 kilometers, and this has customarily been an FKK zone, except for the part readily visible from the border. Until recently, there was a fence across the beach at the international boundary. That fence came down in 2007, and more Polish visitors have begun to stroll across the beach into Germany since the large Polish town of Świnoujście ("Swinemünde" in German) is situated just beyond the border.

Despite being neighbors, Germans and Poles have very different ideas about displays of nakedness. Poland is far more socially conservative than Germany. Some Poles claim to have been scandalized by naked bodies so close by; some Germans have complained about Poles that come to stare at naked bodies. In response to the recent cultural friction, large signs have been erected at both ends that clearly announce the limits of the FKK area in German and Polish. The FKK area between the signs stretches 500 meters.

  Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf, Germany

Ahlbeck is a subdivision of the municipality of Heringsdorf, and it is located southeast of the main part of Heringsdorf. When mapping Ahlbeck, be sure to qualify it with "Heringsdorf" or "Usedom" to avoid confusing it with the inland town of Ahlbeck, which is also located in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. There are no large beach parking lots in Ahlbeck. One option is to look for parking and access to the beach as far east in Ahlbeck as possible. If you do this, you'll enter the FKK zone from its western end.

Another option is to drive toward Poland on Swinemünder Chaussee, which is a straight-ahead continuation of route B111. About 1.5 kilometers after you leave the development of Ahlbeck, you will reach a parking lot called Grenzparkplatz immediately before the Polish border, at coordinates 53.9233, 14.2133 (Map It). From Grenzparkplatz, a broad, well-defined path leads about 800 meters through the woods to the beach. Facing the sea from the end of the path, turn left and shortly you'll enter the FKK zone from its eastern end.
